Worship
Worship - Elizabeth Campbell, chair
Worship is the human response to God's grace and infinite love. It is central to the life of Christ's church. Music is one of the integral elements of our worship. Acting on these convictions, FPC energetically promotes and teaches the language of faith through worship so that all of God's people, young and old, are vitally involved in singing, praying, proclaiming and living the Gospel of Jesus Christ
- Service for the Lord's Day
Worship at First Presbyterian Church is the heart of our congregational life together. We worship on Sunday mornings at 10:30am and at other times in the liturgical year as planned by the Worship Committee and staff.
- Parking Assistance
Parking lots are located on the south side of Main Street across from the sanctuary, as well as adjacent to the church building with entrances off both Main Street and West 1st North Street. Special assistance with parking is provided for our Sunday morning worship service. If you wish to have assistance with parking, simply drive your car to the covered walkway in the parking lot adjacent to the sanctuary and a member of our valet parking crew will be there to help.
Music - Marcy Lay, Director of Music Ministries
The task of our music ministry is to provide an arena for the musical expression of praise and thanksgiving, Christian testimony and exhortation in this congregation and community. Utilizing a variety of styles and traditions, we strive to present worthy offerings, both chorally and instrumentally, in worship experiences to and for our Lord. First Presbyterian Church offers a number of musical groups for all ages in which our people may give expression to their faith in God and service to His church.
Sanctuary Choir: Our Sanctuary Choir leads in worship weekly, as well as offering special seasonal services and programs throughout the year. Open to teens through adults, the choir practices every Wednesday night, 7:00 -8:30 PM. Members of the Sanctuary Choir faithfully share the joys of Christian fellowship and their common calling of "singing and making music in their hearts to the Lord."
Junior Choir: This elementary aged choir, grades 2-5, meets on Wednesday afternoons, 4:30-5:30, during the school year. These youngsters are given opportunities to grow in their knowledge of music skills, principles of Christian discipleship, and practices and traditions of the church, particularly regarding worship. They also participate in worship several times during the year.
Cherub Choir: The Cherub Choir is composed of children age 4 - first graders. These children participate in a variety of songs, games and activities in which they are exposed to basic fundamentals of both music and our Christian faith. The Cherub Choir meets on Wednesday evenings at 6:00 PM during the school year as a part of our Wednesday Night Program.
Handbell Choirs: Our bell choirs provide opportunities for music making by those who love the unique sound of handbell ringing. Participants share in fellowship, commitment and musical growth. Handbell choirs are available for both youth and adults, experienced ringers and "those who would like to be." The choirs practice weekly and participate in worship frequently.
This annual conference seeks to model a high standard of worship through the promotion of worthy church music and other arts and through the sharpening and refining of the tools of worship.
The Worship and Music Conference provides opportunities for intensive work in many areas and stimulates the imagination through exposure to new possibilities for worship.
The conference adheres to the principles of Reformed worship and provides for the continuing development of the skills and understanding of the entire worshiping community: pastors, musicians, choir members, worship committee members, children - everyone committed to the worship of the church.
The 2005 theme is "Together in Worship: Welcoming the Gifts?" Conference Leaders include: John Bell, Melva Costen, Carlton Young, Bradley Welch and many others. Always offered are many opportunities for inspiration, discussion, choir and handbell participation, art, drama and (of course) the usual food and fellowship.
Housing for this conference is provided at no cost for church members registered for this conference. Registration cost is $295 if registered by April 15. (Therafter it is $345) Our church has a long tradition of attendance at this conference.
